Mr. Westbrick finished the game with 20 points on 3 for 15 shooting. He also had 4 turnovers and a dazzling 3 assists. I just do not understand it. Watching the game, it's as if Westbrick hears Dallas chanting MVP and assumes its for him. He had several 2 on 1 breaks where he either blindly attacked the rim and missed or got caught in the air and ended up giving the ball away. Sometimes he passed to Durant after dribbling around for 10 seconds and realizing that he wasn't going to score. Other times he would fling the ball at Durant's feet, and look astonished as the ball ricocheted out of bounds.
I can only imagine how the conversation goes between Westbrook and Scott Brooks during a timeout.
Scott: Russell, we're only down 7 points lets try and set up Durant.
Westbrick: Coach, I got this. I will bring us back.
Scott: Russell, you do realize Durant has 40 points and is the scoring champ in the league.
Westbrick: Yes, but I'm the best player here.
Scott: You are 3 for 15 today and every single person knows that when you get the ball you are going to drive in regardless of what happens.
Westbrick: Yes, they all know but nobody can stop me so I got this.
Scott: Well I'm going to go back to the bench and down another bottle of Nyquil.
Nate Robinson: Coach, I know I haven't played all season and I'm probably going to be embarrassed but can I please play. I'm kinda bored sitting here.
Scott: Well we're fucked anyway. Go right ahead.
All I want is a good series. If Russell can start playing like a PG and using his talents for good, then I can see Oklahoma really challenging the Mavericks. However, I would not bet on this happening.
