Unless they keep me overnight, I'm having the midshipman I sponsor from the Naval Academy pick me up and get me settled at home. I'm sure I'll be just fine - I'm just a worrier.
Lucky you! :)
Wish i'd had a sailor pick me up and put me to bed when i was having surgery :D As i was a horny teenager at the time this would have been a dream come true waking up to a sexy sailor. Actually given those hospital gowns that may not have been such a good idea :D
Also, agreed with jsw. Take the fasting restrictions very seriously

Canada was well aware of who they were voting for. It's not like the conservatives are a new party gaining power. Harper has been there for a while. All the small businesses I know in my area voted conservative because they knew the liberals and NDP were going to attempt gutting them.

Somehow I was expecting to see a lot more praise and excitement for the 3DS after it launched....
The 3D effect seems to trigger mixed reactions. Other than that...there really doesn't seem to be anything truly exciting about it? I don't see any "wow, those graphics!!" or "holy cow, this thing is fast/powerful" type comments.
The general vibe I am getting from here and other places is more like "pretty neat", rather than "wow, so awesome".
Because that's exactly the response.
The 3DS graphics are roughly the same as PSP, so nothing new (and in fact, so 2005) and hence nothing to jump up and down about. Sure, it's better than the DS...
The 3D is mixed reactions because it's...meh. The consensus is that it's cool for a while, after which your eyes hurt, or the battery dies, or you get fed up with losing the sweet spot all the time. It's got the wow factor of being a new technology, but no real lasting appeal.
I had a 3DS for three days, sent it back. Totally underwhelmed.

Unfortunately iDisk is as slow as buggery, and always has been. Apple have done nothing to improve performance.
From my experience, it's the Finder that's slow, not iDisk. I access my iDisk (the few times I need to) from Transmit and it is very fast.
I have .Mac, and I know that, but if you just want Mail you still pay the full wack!!
If you want just the email account then yes, .Mac is not worth it. That's the point. .Mac is more than email, and if you want an email address, get Gmail and hook it up into Mail.app....

Understood, but there is no "Pro" version of this new one, so I'm not sure where you were going with that.

Cons - smaller networks wouldn't survive; most niche networks would become less focused in order to appeal to a wider demographic; diversity in program would be jeopardized.
And how is that a con? The reason cable companies say they charge so much is because they give 100s of channels. If there were only 40, they couldn't hide behind that.
And since when is the goal of business to protect the undesirable? If 10 chain restaurants open in your town and nobody eats at 2 of them, should the other 8 raise their prices and give the overage to the 2 nobody likes? No, the 2 should shut down. No sense in having a business if nobody wants the business. Cable channels are a business.

Choosing to run it in osx over windows is just stubborness if you ask me. When all's said and done, you're getting the exact same experience on windows side while in-game, except higher performance.
The current mobility 4850s in the iMacs CAN run sc2 at native resolution with fluidity. I run max settings and native resolution, spare portraits to 2d, and get 30 fps-- never dip below 24fps. (This is on windows side, the mac osx side gets 20 less fps on average, which is pretty pathetic)

In my opinion, Pages is not all that bad. It needs some tweaking and Apple has to fix some bugs. I'm sure Pages 2 will be a great app for everyone who wants to do basic wordprocessing and publishing without the limitations of TextEdit. I guess most people are disappointed with Pages because of the following two reasons:
a) Pages wasn't finished when it was released
b) Pre-MWSF rumours were talking about an MS Office replacement or killer so many people think of Pages as being a replacement for Word. But I think Pages was never intended to replace Word, it's more like iMovie vs. FCP/FCE.

Things are about to change...
In order to let version 1.0 of this widget really blow your socks of, some changes had to be made on the ExtremeOverclocking side.
The guys are great in adding some extra info i requested. Small bummer: the current version of the widget doesn't work anymore (it has no idea the xml file changed - no AI yet, sry). I'll try to do a quick fix by the end of the week (should be faster, just not in the mood right now  ). 1.0 should be out before the end of the month (september that is ;)).
Sorry about this,
Keep up the fold,

This is easily the most factually complete and correct post in this thread. Kudos!
Why did/do we even have dual/tri-band GSM phones or HSPA phones that don't do AWS - especially now in 2010? Is it antenna design? Is it the extra analog front ends needed? Is it just product market segmentation?
Yes, for every band supported in the phone there needs to be an analog amplifier between the antenna and the RF modem. There are also antenna issues. Antennas have to be designed to be tuned to the specific bands, so if you have a pentaband antenna things can get quite tricky. I am an EE although my antenna design skills are quite rusty, it would seem that 850/900 and 1800/1900 should be easy to implement given that a) grouped together they are closed enough bands, and b) they lie in two groups of frequencies that are multiple exactly by 2, giving you an antenna that has to be exactly half of the wavelength and making it easier to design an antenna with a form that resonates on both frequencies. If you throw 2100Mhz things get complicated and if if you add 1700 even more so.
Whatever it is, the frequency bands supported by the phone are not trivial to implement and they are a technical challenge. That's why many times you get different versions of the same phone for different markets with different supported bands. If it was easy to just one phone for all they would do it.

Omg with no laptop updates, I'd like to watch as Apple's laptop sales tumble. Already the Apple Store dropped their MacBook shipping days down to 3-5 days (nobody wants it).

the iPad will be for normal people when you don't have the sync it.
all this syncing ********* needs to stop.
I shouldn't need another computer to use my iPad.
Makes no sense at all.
True
But do you really need to sync it though?
The apple store will activate it apparently if asked,
and I can't see people having much problem yet if they haven't synced from day 1.
So its possible to own an ipad without a computer.
Only becomes a problem when too many apps require a later OS version

There is absolutely zero logic to the rest of your post either. How has this helped the music industry exactly?
Like i said above, without the RATM thing, only a few thousand people would have bought Joe's single and practically no-one would have bought RATM. Having some competition, inspired people to buy the song they liked. More people bought Joe's and RATM's music than if there would be no 'rebellious campaign'. More money in a industry makes it a lot healthier. Especially for Sony.
As I have said all along, the UK chart is a glorified popularity contest. The most popular record, at the time, wins.
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that the general idea of the charts?
People don't just buy the xfactor winners single because of the name - they buy it because they like it (and it's usually more than a few thousand btw)
Since the demise of the chart show and top of the pops in the UK, the xfactor is really the only music show on telly. Meaning that it is all that the TV viewers see. The common working person who slumps on the couch, tired on saturday night, and watches the xfactor, isn't going to spend their time searching for other music available, when the music comes easy on the TV. With no other music on such a big TV show, it gives the xfactor a kind of a monopoly.
They may like it, but in their eyes (or ears), it's the only thing to like, because they simply don't have the time or the interest to search different genre's of music.
There has also been no significant reduction in music piracy as a result of this campaign - I guarantee it.
But I can guarantee more people have bought music. I certainly have.
There has been no 'rebellion'.
Yes there was. If there was no rebellion, RATM would not have even been suggest for xmas number 1.
